Battery Workforce Skills and Training Grants Program

Powering Australia is pleased to announce the Battery Workforce Skills & Training (BWST) Grants Program, designed to accelerate Australia's battery value-chain capabilities and support the development of a skilled, safety-focused, and future-ready workforce.

Across the sector, demand for battery skills is surpassing supply in roles like battery system design, installation, integration, safe handling, and recycling. Australia's energy transition depends on building a skilled workforce in these critical areas.

The $1.6 million BWST program offers two funding streams:

  • Training Grants: for businesses seeking to co-invest to upskill staff and establish a pipeline of skilled workers for the battery sector

  • Training Materials Development Grants: to support organisations developing training resources for emerging battery technologies

If your organisation operates within, or is preparing to join, the battery value chain, this is your opportunity to build capability, improve safety, and contribute to a national skills pipeline for the benefit of the entire sector. BWST Grants will be available through to the end of 2027.

How to Apply

It's easy.

  1. Read the guidelines for your grant:
    Battery Training Grants

    Battery Training Materials Development Grants
  2. Apply on the grants platform: Battery Training Grants is a one-step application, and the Battery Training Materials Development Grant is a two-step process (an Expression of Interest first, then a full application if eligible).

Both are merit-based, competitive processes.

These are matched-funding grants: you contribute towards the cost, and Powering Australia matches your investment up to the program limit.
